The Wallace Collection was established from the private collection of Sir Richard Wallace, which was bequeathed to the UK by his widow in 1897. The museum opened to the public in 1900, in Hertford House in Manchester Square. The collection includes old master paintings, such as The Laughing Cavalier, fine porcelain such as Svres and Meissen, armour, Eighteenth Century French furniture and diverse objets d'art. A few years ago the inner courtyard was given a glass roof.
The Wallace Collection provides a spectacular setting for entertaining. Its home, Hertford House, is a palatial London townhouse, occupying an entire side of a tranquil garden square. The venue caters for a variety of events, from intimate dinners for 20 to receptions for 400 guests. It offers clients the opportunity to entertain in rooms ornately decorated with priceless works of art, giving guests exclusive access to view treasures in an intimate environment. In addition, the contrasting Sculpture Garden is an elegant glazed internal courtyard, suitable for relaxed drinks parties, awards ceremonies, dinners and fashion shows.
Open 7 days a week, 10am - 5pm - Addmission is free.
|To get there from the Americana: walk down Baker Street and look for a left turn into George Street. This will take you to Manchester Square, the Wallace Collection in on the south side of the square.|
