Portobello Market in West London is one of the most famous street markets in the world. It is a popular destination for Londoners and tourists alike.
Portobello Road goes straight through the heart of Notting Hill, the trendy area of London made famous by the film. Indeed, so famous is the film Notting Hill that scarcely a week goes by without someone or other asking traders about the various set locations: the blue door, the travel bookshop, the garden fence and so on.
Portobello Market takes up most of what is actually more properly called Portobello Road, it stretches for around two miles, although on a crowded saturday afternoon it takes quite a while to walk from end to end.
Market opening times
09:00 – 18:00 Monday To Wednesday
09:00 – 13:00 Thursday
09:00 – 19:00 Friday and saturday.
The antiques and bric-a-brac stalls are open only on Saturdays and trading may start a little earlier.
To get there from the Americana; turn left when you leave the hotel and walk down to Marylebone Road (the second traffic light). Cross over the road and look to the left - there is a bus stop - take Bus 27 from there to Notting Hill Gate. The market is about 100 mtrs from the bus stop.
